Sail With Us!

Sailing is offered at all the Sailability branches though each branch varies regarding activities offered, sailing schedule and season, and location. Please check for specific information at the branch or branches near where you live.

Branches may offer the following:

  • Going for a sail: Some participants may enjoy the opportunity to getting out on the water and being a passenger on a sailboat.
  • Assisting in sailing: Some may want to be actively involved in sailing to his or her interest and capability. The sailboat remains under the final control of the Sailability volunteer skipper but the participant may steer the boat and/or manage the sails.  As the participant progresses over time the  amount of control of the boat may increasingly be under the guidance of the participant.
  • Sailing: The participant may control the sailboat while the Sailability volunteer skipper monitors the sailboat to assure safe sailing. The participant may work on specific sailing techniques such as rounding markers and receive guidance and encouragement from the skipper.
  • Solo sailing: Once the participant displays the ability to safely sail the boat in varying conditions and situations he or she can sail the boat independently. Participants always remain within visual contact of Sailability volunteers providing safety monitoring.
  • Racing: Participants may become involved in racing at the Sailability branch or at regional, state, national and even international regattas.
Please check with your local branch for branch-specific details.
